Selling Tips for Online Auctions
Tips on how to be a successful seller with online auction sites.
Online auctions are a great way to sell your items and make a little extra money on the side. Here are a few tips to make sure you have a good selling experience with online auctions. As a seller, your profile in the online auction community is important. Create an About Me page. Buyers are more likely to trust you if you're willing to disclose a little more information about yourself. Always participate in feedback programs. Feedback helps build your reputation and credibility. Auction sellers depend on good customer service for good feedback. So respond to emails and questions people have quickly and courteously. Now about what you're selling…research how much products like yours are being sold for. Start the bid as low as possible. Products with low starting prices are more likely to be bid on first. The timing of your close is also important. It's best to close an auction during peak hours of the day, usually when people are at home and willing to spend money. Higher traffic days are Sunday and Monday nights from five to ten p.m. Be up front and honest with pricing. Always tell the buyer about shipping and handling arrangements and payment options. Be up front about how much the product really costs to ship. If someone buys an item for two dollars they probably won't be willing to pay eight dollars for shipping and handling. Choose your words wisely. Use words in the heading that make the item sound special without lying. You can try using power words like designer, new, rare, unique, money saving, etcetera. 65 percent of eBay users find products through the search feature. Using those power words can help create a strong search. Include a detailed description. This is the place where the product can really shine. Include every detail about the item important or not. Include the product's history, any defects, why it's being sold and any stories about it. This gives the item a personal touch and allows the buyer to know a little something about the seller. When you get ready to list a product make sure you carefully select a category. Make a list of categories that best suit your product and then narrow it down. Avoid listing in categories that have less than 1000 listings because typically these categories don't get much traffic. Lastly, always include photos of the product. Buyers feel more comfortable bidding on products they've seen. We hope these tips will help assist you in having the best online auction experience.
